چکیده

Background Angioedema of the upper airway is a life-threatening Emergency Department (ED) presentation with many etiologies. Angiotensin converting enzyme-inhibitor (ACE-I) use is one cause of non-mast cell mediated angioedema. As the use of this medication class increases with our aging population, it is important to characterize the presentation and management of ACE-I induced angioedema (AAE), a rare but potentially severe side effect of this commonly prescribed medication class. The objectives of this study were to describe the incidence and management of AAE in the ED and to identify any epinephrine-induced morbidity.

ACE-I Angioedema: Accurate Clinical Diagnosis May Prevent Epinephrine-Induced Harm

INTRODUCTION Upper airway angioedema is a life-threatening emergency department (ED) presentation with increasing incidence. Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor induced angioedema (AAE) is a non-mast cell mediated etiology of angioedema. Accurate diagnosis by clinical examination can optimize patient management and reduce morbidity from inappropriate treatment with epinephrine. The aim of t...

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor-induced angioedema.

Angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors frequently are prescribed for the management of cardiovascular disorders. In addition to their therapeutic potential, ACE inhibitors are associated with numerous adverse effects, some of which may be lethal. Angioedema is an uncommon but serious acute event that may affect any individual taking an ACE inhibitor. This review outlines the advances in...

Isolated Visceral Angioedema Induced by Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme Inhibitor

Visceral angioedema is a rare complication of therapy with angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. Clinical presentation includes nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Early detection of this entity can prevent recurrent episodes and unnecessary invasive procedures, including surgery. This article describes a 46-year-old-woman who presented to the emergency department with abdo...

BACKGROUND Recent data are lacking about the number of patients with angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI)-induced angioedema who present to the emergency department (ED). Current management of the condition and clinical outcomes also are not known. OBJECTIVE To describe the clinical epidemiology of ACEI-induced angioedema in patients who present to the ED. METHODS We performed a m...
